| The first Naruto game for
the Playstation 2 shows that not all anime fighters are terrible. This game
is fun. Seriously, it borrows the game play of Super Smash Bros, adds in
Super Moves, and stage changes. The animation honors the manga with it's
original cel-shading manga graphics.
One of the best aspects of this game is that it's easy to pick up. The only part that gets a little complicated is mission mode, where you are given missions such as defeat enemy while only using throwing weapons, or forcing your opponent to use all of his chakra (energy) and then beating on him. Back to the Super Moves for a moment - Once a super move is activated, you're given pre-made scenes featuring your characters ultimate attacks. On each side of the screen there is a combination of different buttons to press, and pressing them can make your attack stronger and chaining another attack onto it, or can reduce damage if you're on the defense. All the attacks from up to the first two seasons of the anime are in here, from Naruto's Harem Jetsu to Neji's Thousand Palm Rotation move. Also, the game is fully voice by the English voice actors. The down side of the game is that it's only two
players. Real action would come in if it was 4. ^^ Of course, we'll have
that pleasure when Naruto: Clash of Ninja 2 is released later this year. My
only other gripe is the intro swipe. I've always enjoyed Japanese intros to Naruto: Ultimate Ninja isn't just for Naruto fans, but anyone who has a rival (Like my friend Terry is to me.) to play against or you just like Smash Bros and don't own a Game Cube. +Awesome Fighter for anyone to pick up. Beautiful and sharp. -Could use 4 player, maybe a couple more characters. |
